Firstly, it encourages you to think about what you are doing:

  • What are you eating?
  • What are you drinking?
  • How much physical activity are you undertaking?

Secondly, it encourages you to think about your goals:

  • What do you want to achieve?
  • Do you want to put on weight?
  • Stay the same weight?
  • Lose weight?

Once you're clear about what you want, you can check your progress against your goals.

Finally, it encourages you to act. If you think about what you’re doing and what you want to achieve, then it becomes easier to act early. The more quickly you act to lose any extra weight you’ve gained, the easier it is to do so.
